Over Christmas, Bob Hope, Raquel Welch andother entertainers were in Vietnam performing for the Christmasholiday — and a group of lucky troops were able to see the show live.Back at home, Americans were able to see highlights of the shows on tele-vision in January, ever mindful of all those who were serving in Vietnam. With the start of the New Year, American troops were preparing foranother year in Vietnam. Many longed to return home, and they counteddown the days before their expected date to return home. The days werelong and tedious and filled with uncertainty and danger. In this faraway country, a major Vietnamese holiday was also approaching:Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The Tet holiday was the most celebratedtime in Vietnam, and a time when the fighting in Vietnam usually ceasedfor a short period. Many South Vietnamese soldiers were granted leave andjoined family and friends for this special celebration.Meanwhile, the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong had been planning formonths a surprise attack on South Vietnam. The Communist forces wouldunleash a wave of attacks on South Vietnam while the South Vietnamesewere celebrating their lunar New Year. With little warning, shortly aftermidnight, the sounds of combat exploded in Saigon and other locations. The assault had started. The Tet Offensive was well-organized and conductedcountrywide, eventually including more than 100 towns and cities. TheTet Offensive was by far the largest military operation conducted up tothat point in the war, and it proved to be a pivotal turning point in the war.Honoring All Those Who ServedThe 50thAnniversary of the Tet OffensiveIn honor of the upcoming 50thanniversary of the Tet Offensive, and insalute to all who served during the Vietnam War, America Remembersproudly announces theTet 50thAnniversary Tribute Pistol. For thishistoric Tribute, we selected a working Colt®Government Model®pistolin caliber .45 ACP, a classic military firearm, and a trusted sidearmduring the Vietnam War. Craftsmencommissioned specifically for this project by America Remembersdecorate each pistol in sparkling 24-karat gold and gleaming nickel, withblackened patinaed highlights to accentuate the details of the artwork. On the slide, you’ll find six important battles of the Tet Offensive – Hue,Khe Sanh, Saigon, Da Nang, Quang Tri and Bien Hoa. Saigon was thecapital of South Vietnam and the surprise attacks on Saigon during the firstnight included an attempt to overrun the US Embassy and to capture theNational Radio Station.A Marine Corps Combat Base was located at Khe Sanh. The NVA hadbuilt up significant forces around Khe Sanh, far outnumbering Americansand South Vietnamese forces. During Tet, the NVA subjected the baseto day and night bombardment, and cut off theoverland supply route to the base. The base wouldremain under siege for more than two months.Hue was a cultural center in South Vietnam. Thefighting in Hue was intense, and lasted for four weeks. The Marines and South Vietnamese forces had to fightbuilding to building, street by street, to reclaim the city.Much of the city was destroyed and losses on both sideswere high.Quang Tri City was in the north of Vietnam and animportant government headquarters. It was an importanttarget for the NVA. Bien Hoa and Da Nang were home tomajor military air bases for the United States. They wereboth attacked at the start of the Tet Offensive, but attacks wereturned back by the allied forces.EXCLUSIVE 50thANNIVERSARY TRIBUTEOrder today and we will arrange delivery of your workingTribute through the licensed firearms dealer of your choice. You will receive your Tribute with our 30-day guarantee ofsatisfaction.
