Planetary Submissives
ZALL’S CAPTAIN
Amber Kell
Book three in the Planetary Submissives Series
When ex‐slave Zall is asked to be Captain Teslan’s cabin boy, he learns
sometimes you have to bend your rules to offer your heart.
Zall is settling in on the ship Chalice chose for him. Even though he’s not a
soldier, he’s learning from them and developing his own skills. When the
ship changes captains, Zall has to decide if he’d rather keep his independence
or offer himself to a man who might be
everything he’s ever wanted…or his biggest mistake.
Danner Teslan has agreed to investigate a possible smuggling ring on a military
ship.
However when he arrives and meets Zall, he’s convinced the ex‐slave is his
other half. Zall is not interested in becoming another man’s property
and Danner has to decide whether he’s willing to give another person the
freedom to destroy his heart.
Chapter One
“They say he doesn’t keep his cabin boys for long.”
Zall heard the whispers race around him as he went onto his tiptoes to peek
between
the rows of soldiers blocking his line of sight. No one gossiped more than a
group of warriors with downtime.
He’d only been on the ship for a few months, and they were already changing
leaders.
Captain Smallen was stepping down to retire and pass his leadership over to a
younger man.
Rumours abounded that Smallen’s retirement might not be entirely voluntary.
No one knew why. Smallen had announced he was leaving a week
ago and had sent his personal cabin boy back home, over the man’s loud
objections.
Zall had never liked Jav anyway. The guy had the pampered look of someone
who’d
never worked a day in his life and liked to rub everyone’s nose in it. As a
former slave, Zall had met enough useless people to know one when he
saw one.
Examining the people closest to him, Zall wondered who might want to be the
next
cabin boy picked. Every captain chose someone to keep him or her sexually
sated and away from the rest of the crew. A leader who gave in to
sleeping with a member of his staff set up a poor dynamic. However, the
military recognised that their captains had needs. Their
solution? Either bring a dedicated lover on board or pick one from the crew.
Zall hoped the change in leaders wouldn’t affect his position on the ship. After
two
months, he was just now finding his feet. Even though he had a limited skill
set—a slave’s life didn’t lead to much training—Zall spent his days
helping out wherever he could. Some days he assisted the cook, and others he
crawled into the belly of the ship to get to spots the elderly systems
mechanic couldn’t reach. Even though with proper nutrition he’d put on a few
pounds, Zall still retained his rangy build. His leanness helped him
slide beneath the ship’s pipes or slink between electrical panels.
Truthfully, he didn’t have to work at all. Prince Chalice had settled a large
amount of money into Zall’s account—something about taking care of his
own. Chalice might be a
young man with scary magical abilities, but he had the biggest heart Zall had
ever seen. That had to be the reason why he’d fallen for his asshole of
an emperor. Zall suspected the only
thing preventing Terrin Hawk from ruling the galaxy with an iron fist was the
pretty prince kneeling at his side. The dynamic between the pair had
always baffled Zall. How a man like Chalice could hand over control of himself
to a borderline despot amazed Zall, but no more than the fact that he
suspected the emperor would realign the planets to earn his lover’s favour.
Zall didn’t care who ran the ship as long as they left him alone. He’d barely
ever seen the last captain. However, he had to admit that the pictures of
Captain Teslan circulating around added more than a little lust to his curiosity.
“Are you going to apply for the cabin boy position?” Zall heard one soldier ask
another.
He waited for the man’s reply. He didn’t want to interrupt. So far he’d had a
mixed reception from the crew. The soldiers would train with him and the
supervisors would accept his help, but no one quite knew how to treat him.
Although Zall trained with the military in his free time, they always eyed
him warily as if expecting him to pull magic out of his ass. He hated to break it
to the other men, but association with a powerful magic‐wielding
prince didn’t give him any special abilities.
Still, he was neither soldier nor servant—an oddity on a military vessel. When
he’d
wanted to leave planetside, Chalice had commandeered one of Hawk’s ships
and had
insisted they give him passage, even though Chalice had had absolutely no
authority. Zall knew of no one who could truly say no to Chalice and
stick to their word.
With little fuss, they’d found Zall a luxurious cabin and Chalice had snapped a
bracelet on Zall’s wrist, telling him to stay safe. He’d been on the ship
No Mercy
ever since. He privately wondered how long it would take Hawk to
start renaming his fleet after his lover.
It was still weird to think of a prince as a pet, but Chalice had special needs.
Zall couldn’t even begin to understand how one small, beautiful man
could keep so much magical energy bottled up inside.
The idea of belonging to someone appalled Zall probably more than it would
have if he
hadn’t been considered property for most of his life. According to the crew, it
was a highly coveted position because a cabin boy escaped all hard
labour, ate the same food as the captain and got a steady bed mate…at least
until the captain tired of him and tossed him out, which apparently
happened often with Captain Teslan. Gossip abounded that the man had
never kept a boy for more than a few months.
“I bet he chooses someone as soon as he arrives,” one of the engineers
muttered. “He’ll pick someone young. Someone he can adapt to his
needs.”
His avid audience nodded. Zall noticed that the first soldier had never said
whether he planned to apply for the cabin boy position or not.
A tide of silence hit the room.
The captain had arrived.
Zall’s first glimpse of the man made his stomach flutter madly and his cock
harden.
Damn, he’s gorgeous.
Tall and muscular, Captain Teslan marched across the bridge with perfect
confidence,
as if he was certain he would find everything just how he had planned it.
Admiring the captain’s fit form, Zall knew whomever this guy chose as his
bed warmer would be very
lucky. Although Captain Smallen had begun to soften around the middle, no
one could have accused Teslan of being out of shape. Zall licked his
lips as the new captain walked closer.
Danner Teslan scanned the troops, assessing his crew and evaluating the state
of the
ship as he entered. He’d been sent there to clean up after suspicions of
smuggling had followed the old captain into retirement. They hadn’t been
able to gather enough information to court‐martial Captain Smallen but he’d
definitely left under a cloud, and all of his assistants were still
unidentified. Smallen wouldn’t give up his men, which made him a good
leader but a poor informant. As far as Danner could tell, the perpetrators
were still on board.
Danner hoped he didn’t look as tired as he felt. At thirty‐five and in command
of his
first space ship, he was already sick of being in charge. It might be lonely at the
top, but it was also lonely when you
needed
a top and could only
find bottom boys. No one thought a captain might want to be the one
dominated from time to time, and not from someone
topping from the bottom.
With every fibre of his being Danner yearned for a mate. By the time they
were
Danner’s age, his parents had already been together for five years.
Unfortunately, after going through countless men, Danner still hadn’t found
the
perfect match for him. The most he could hope for—a less‐than‐bitchy cabin
boy.
Connecting to his psychic powers, Danner swept the minds of everyone in the
room,
automatically seeking out the troublemakers. Most soldiers had average
thoughts. They
pondered their aching shoes, their boredom and what the mess hall would
serve for dinner.
Nothing earth‐shattering. Northing tempting.
“Damn, he’s gorgeous. I would love to tie him up and lick him all over.”
Danner froze in his tracks as the words seeped into his head like someone had
whispered sweet nothings into his ear. A flash of heat whipped through his
body like a solar storm. Shaking his head, he brushed away the
concerns of the other officers surrounding him as tried to focus and pick up
the loud thinker again.
“Look at those eyes and those lips. I’d love his mouth on me.”
Danner swallowed back a groan. This guy was killing him. Damn, his cock
hardened at
the images the stranger built. A strong mind, possibly psychic, overloaded his
with picture after picture of Danner tied to a bed, bent over a chair
and leaning over bare, muscular thighs for a spanking. Some of the visuals
didn’t have Danner’s body quite right but, for someone who had never
